An Ocean Away

I stare with anguish at the open sea,
A distant ghost, fading – is all i see.
Was It desperation?  My masquerade
Engaging, pretending, painting a shade
Of vivid serenity – that they said
Was fooling no one,  not even one. And
While the sun burns my skin in two colors,
I’m cold, and numb, and drowning in sorrow.
While Marooned in an isle of your haunting,
I keep erasing, I keep creating
An image that’s convoluting, distorting
Shuffling from bleak memories and longing…
No anchor can sink you permanently,
You’ll be back ashore eventually.
Beneath a night sky, I gave up and lay
And dream of a ghost an ocean away –
